Biography
Brian McInerney has been doing
photography for over 30 years. His subject matter ranges from landscapes
to portraits. Some of his most interesting pieces focus on the diversity
and complexity of human expressions that surface when people feel unobserved
by the camera.
Artist Statement
These are the pictures that I shot in the last three months
I made
several trips to China
first Hong Kong
then Shang Hai
after
that Nanning and Hangzhou
(where my youngest daughter Lia Jiang
was born. Lia died in a car accident in Maine five and a half years
ago. She was two years old
I have been divorced for three years
now, and have met a lovely woman named Jiangyang over in Nanning
she
and her son Gexu are coming here after her visa is approved
probably
in June
we will get married and live somewhere in New England
maybe
Portland or southern New Hampshire.
China is an amazing country
it
really is much different than America
the population is very high
there
are apartment buildings everywhere
bicycles
motorcycles
busses
trains,
and a lot of walking.
I remember when I was a little
boy, and my grandfather would tell me stories
he knew so much,
but never mentioned China
I did not know anything about the country
when we adopted Lia either. It really was a matter of me traveling there
before I knew what it was
I had to see it to believe it.
I took all my pictures with
a Fuji camera
I know that they certainly have flaws, but they are
good
I wish more than anything that I could show you the country,
but as I have learned, the only real way to get to know something is
to go there and see it. Any money that I get from this show, I will
give to an orphanage in China
I know that it is not a lot, but
it does make a little difference in someone's life.
